Chili Cook Off
Every year in January, Girls Inc participates in the all community event "CHILI COOK OFF" sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Alameda. Professional chefs judge entrants for the best chili and the people who attend judge to vote for the best chili for the people's choice awards. The event includes a silent auction, BBQ dinner, dancing, raffle and is always lots of fun.
Father Daughter Dance
Girls Incorporated of the Island City and Alameda Parks and Recreation co-host the Annual Father/Daughter dance for girls in kindergarten through 5th grade and their fathers, or other favorite male role model. This year's 11th Annual Father/Daughter Mad Hatter Tea Party was on Friday, February 10, 2012, 6:30-8:00pm, at Albert H. DeWitt's Officers' Club, 641 West Redline Avenue.
Women Who Dare Luncheon
Women Who Dare Awards is our signature event. Each year, we celebrate the strides women have made and inspire girls to reach for equality and success. We raise awareness in the community about the important work that is being done and recognize the needs of the future to empower girls. We encourage people and businesses to make a difference in our community and support Girls Inc and to recognize the special contributions made by special women and teens to their communities. more...
Recognition and Awards Dinner
Girls Incorporated of the Island City holds the Annual Installation and Awards Dinner to honor and welcome current board members and honor retiring board members, community volunteers, and donors, who have helped us meet our mission to inspire our girls to be strong, smart and bold and who have served and supported our children during the past year. more...
Holiday Sale
Girls Incorporated of the Island City holds our annual Holiday Sale at our Meyers Center in December. This event is open to children enrolled in our Girls and Teens Program and our Alameda Island Kids child care service. The sale is a chance for the children to purchase and wrap gifts at a cost of less than one dollar for their families and friends. Volunteers and donations are need to make this once a year a successful event. To donate gifts, gift bags, or other wrapping supplies, or to volunteer for this year's event, please call 510.521.1743 x207.
Teen Summit
Girls Incorporated of the Island City holds the Girls Take Charge Summit for teen girls. At the summit, girls participate in different workshops such as Healthy Skin Care, Self Defense, Community Issues and Financial Literacy and participate in a lively forum about making change in their communities. more...
See Jane Run 5K / Half Marathon
See Jane Run is an annual marathon that benefits
Girls Inc and is our largest fundraising event. Take a big group of women, add chocolate, champagne, dancing, massages, laughter, tears and lots of fun… it feels like a girls' night out! But it's not. It's the See Jane Run Half Marathon and 5K! It's got a beautiful course and a finish-line celebration with champagne and chocolate. There is also a kids' race stretching one mile. more...
