Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dates for each quarter?
Fall Quarter: August through December
Winter Quarter: January through March
Spring Quarter: March through June
Note: Dates coincide with Alameda Public Schools first day of school and last day before winter break
If I sign my daughter up after a quarter begins, is my fee pro-rated?
No, it is a flat fee for each quarter, no matter when you register or how many days per week your daughter attends. We are now offering sliding-scale fees per quarter, depending on your income level. Please contact Girls Program Director, Natalie Duarte for more information.
Do you offer Scholarships?
At this time we are not offering scholarships. The new sliding-scale fee model took into account our families’ scholarship needs when deciding the fee levels. Download the sliding-scale model for more information.
What does the Girls Inc. Teens! Program cost?
There is no fee for the Girls Inc. Teens! Program. Girls in grades 6-12 are free!
Does my daughter have to be enrolled in a public school to attend Girls Inc.?
No, we serve all girls, whether they are in public, private or home schools.
Is it OK if my daughter doesn’t attend every day?
Yes. Our classes are structured so that if she comes on the same day each week, she will get the most out of our programs. She does not have to attend every day. Check out our schedule for classes offered on each day. However, we highly encourage her to attend every day so she receives the full benefit of the Girls Inc. programs.
Is Girls Inc. open for early release days?
Usually. If the day in question is an AUSD district-wide early release day, we will open when school lets out. Please call to us to verify whether we will open early and at what time.
Is Girls Inc. open for AUSD non-student days and holiday breaks?
The Girls Afterschool Program will be closed for holidays and AUSD Non-student Days. For your convenience, a new drop-in Meyers Camp will be open on AUSD Non-school days for an additional fee.
My daughter is 5 years old. Can she be part of your program?
Once she has completed Kindergarten and turns 6 she can enroll in Girls Inc. afterschool program for girls or Alameda Island Kids which offers after school care at seven school sites that serve kindergarteners.
Do you provide transportation?
We will provide walking transportation from Franklin, Haight, Lum and Washington Elementary Schools. Girls Inc. staff will meet the girls at the school and walk them over to our program at 1724 Santa Clara Ave. Parents and guardians are responsible for transportation to Girls Inc. from non-walking schools.
