At Girls Incorporated of the Island City, our mission is to inspire all girls
to be strong, smart, and bold(SM).
Our Courageous Women Program allows
women from the community to help us achieve our mission
by sharing their wisdom - about their careers or other
important life experiences - with our girls.
For one 45 minute block (starting around 4:00 pm on
a weekday afternoon), share the story of your life
and teach the girls a skill from computers to sewing,
painting to sports … anything you can do that you
think a girl might like to learn! What can you tell
a group of girls, ages 6 to 13, to help them along
their paths to success? What were your heart-driven
dreams when you were young? What are your passions?
How did you get where you are today? Who and what
helped you along the way? What was your drive and
inspiration?
Hands-on activities allow our girls to better understand
what you do and will give them a chance to ask questions
while being fully-engaged in a project. Telling them
your story inspires our girls to be successful in
their own futures. Become the teacher and give them
some practical work experience or a chance to develop
a new hobby. It is a chance for them to meet and understand
you - not only professionally, but also personally.
Our Courageous Women program now coincides by topic with themes we offer every week, so please look at the 2006 Courageous Women Schedule [8kb pdf] to find out when you might best fit into our program and join the many Courageous Women who have made a difference by participating in this program!
