The Girls Inc. Teen Program focuses on giving girls in 9th through 12th grade an opportunity to develop important skills, meet friends, and determine a course for their lives. We provide fun and interactive programs that equip girls with the skills to succeed in their personal, academic, and professional lives.

Blueprint
Want to get involved in the community, have fun, and meet new people? Blueprint is a social action program for high school girls. Each year Blueprint participants research a selected issue and create a presentation or performance to educate their peers and the community about the issue. Past topics include “Preventing Teen Dating Violence,” “Preventing Teen Depression,” and “Promoting a Healthy Body Image.” The current issue for 2009 is “Self Esteem and Self Acceptance. FacilitateHER
Like working with kids? This is a program where teens are trained in leadership and facilitation skills. Teens begin the program as counselors-in-training and finish the program as confident group leaders. They have the opportunity to assist a teacher as well as design and lead their own activities with elementary-aged girls. FacilitateHER meets on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:15 pm.

A talented group of energetic and creative high school students from throughout Alameda have come together as the Zine Team to create a teen magazine for Alameda's youth. Out Loud: Thoughts of a Teenage Mind is written, edited, and designed by members of the Zine Team. It is a collaborative project of the Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth & Their Families in partnership with HOME Project and Girls Incorporated of the Island City. The zine includes poetry, stories, nonfiction, artwork, advice for other teenagers, and articles about current issues and events.
The zine meets Wednesdays from 3:30-5:15 pm. The publication is made possible by the generous support of our advertisers. Interested in creating your own business? Come and learn the in and outs of creating a business and get it rolling now. As a group we will create a business idea that will be submitted to Girls Inc. National Corporate Camp competition. Winners will be selected in February and are flown to New York for a Girls Inc. business conference. This program meets Thursday from 3:00-5:15 p.m. Girls in 7th through 12th grade welcome.
6th Annual Girls Summit took place on February 21, 2009!
Each year Girls Incorporated of the Island City holds the Girls Take Charge Summit for teen girls. At this year’s summit, girls participated in different workshops such “Healthy Skin Care, Self Defense, Financial Literacy to name a few. They participated in a lively forum about making change in their communities, which led to a brainstorm of things in their communities which need to be changed. The Blueprint group in the fall will select their topic from this brain stormed list. Additional resources from Girls Inc. includes 5 Ways to Get Involved in the Elections.
