Programs
At Girls Incorporated of the Island City, we recognize that gender stereotyping still limits girls' potential, so we challenge girls to ask questions about themselves and the world in which they live. Our programs are research-based and time-tested. Programs are designed to be hands-on and interactive in order to encourage each girl to take risks and gain a sense of her own power and strength, to be strong, smart, and bold. Girls programming is offered afterschool and full days during the summer for girls in the 1st thru 6th grade. The teen center is open to middle school and high school girls.
Our programs empower girls to:
- Make decisions
- Advocate for their rights
- Think beyond traditional roles and stereotypes
- Speak in public
- Vocalize beliefs and ideas
- Engage in self expression
- Take risks
- Explore options
- Respect themselves and others
- Form positive and trusting relationships with other girls
- Move beyond their comfort zones
- Interact with girls from different cultures, ethnicities, and experiences
- Engage in community action and social justice efforts
- Prepare for jobs and careers
- Strive for balance
