Programs

At Girls Incorporated of the Island City, we recognize that gender stereotyping still limits girls' potential, so we encourage our girls to challenge stereotypes and explore their own abilities and interests in a girls-only environment that is physically, socially, and emotionally safe. Our programming is holistic, fills in the gaps on issues that parents and schools do not always have the time or resources to cover, and meets the needs of girls in different developmental stages.

Girls programming is offered after school (for girls in 1st-5th grades) and full days during the summer (for girls entering 1st-6th grades). Many of our teen programs take place off site and are for girls in 6th-12th grades. Read our frequently asked questions for more information.

Scholarships

The National Scholars Program was created in 1992, when Lucille Miller Wright, a long-time supporter of Girls Incorporated, made a bequest from her estate to fund scholarships expressly for outstanding young women. Since 1993, more than $2.58 million in scholarships has been awarded to 413 girls across the United States and Canada.

The purpose of the Scholars Program is to make post-secondary education more accessible for Girls Inc. members. The goal of the program is to inspire girls to succeed in school and to consider a broad range of career possibilities. Scholars are selected based on merit and Girls Inc. involvement. The awards are not based on need. Read more...
