Spark

Young women identify and explore their personal strengths and interests, discuss college and career opportunities, and learn how to develop and build healthy relationships. Spark is a prerequisite to Eureka!, a program that introduces young women to careers in science, math and engineering and much more.

Eureka!®

Eureka!® is a national 3 year program designed to be hands-on and interactive in order to encourage young women to explore career paths in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The program mixes STEM subjects with sports and personal development to teach new skills and to encourage exploration. The program consists of four weeks of intensive programming during the summer and additional sessions throughout the school year. The program also requires adult mentors in the science and sports fields. Download the Eureka! Information Packet for more information.

Teen Zine: Middle School Interns

Middle School Programs photoTeen Zine is a program for middle school students to collaborate with high school students to produce Alameda’s very own teen magazine, OutLoud. OutLoud is written for teens by teens. Participants learn how to create a magazine layout and contribute to the content of the publication by writing and editing pieces and by contributing and designing artwork. Interested 7th and 8th graders are required to take part in an interview process in order to participate.

Cinema

Cinema is a program for young women to watch and to discuss films that have important themes relating to young people and decision making. Discussions relate to the truths and myths around specific issues and topics found in the films; as well as provide young people the opportunity to analyze movies and discover film as an art form, career choice and as a tool for communicating important ideas.
