Awards Presented by graduates of our Girls Incorporated of the Island City’s
Award Winning Best Foot Forward Program

The Women Who Dare Awards Event is an annual event held by Girls Inc. to recognize adult and teenage women who are making a difference in our community. Each year, we celebrate the strides women have made in a particular field, and we inspire girls in our Best Foot Forward Program to reach for equality and success. We also raise awareness in the community about the important work that still needs to be done to empower girls.

Women Who Dare is also a program for our girls, who go through our award-winning Best Foot Forward program. Best Foot Forward participants, ages 6-12, participate in a multi-workshop series that teaches a variety of skills including interviewing, script writing, public speaking, and etiquette. The Best Foot Forward program culminates at the Women Who Dare Awards Event, where the participants present the awards to the honorees. The Best Foot Forward Program won the prestigious Annie E. Casey award for "Outstanding Program in Self-Reliance and Life Skills".

This year the honors go to teenage girls and women who represent excellence and dare to be leaders in their service, work, field, or community in the following three categories:

STRONG: Motivates or inspires others to reach their true potential

SMART: Uses expertise to create programs and initiatives that make her a leader

BOLD: A change advocate who influences others

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to help set-up the day’s activities including: registration, silent auction, check out, etc. There are several shifts available between 9am-3pm. Please contact Diana Biondo, Development and Volunteer Coordinator for more information and to sign-up.
